Welcome to my Major Artful Works. My name is Jennifer Major. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in biology. However, my day job is full of spreadsheets and accounting jargon. Our home is a zoo, full of animals and plants. Behind our urban home you can see deer, squirrels, possums, and a woodchuck. In 2016, I was introduced to Zentangle®. The simplicity of the supplies and the time requirements fit my desire to be creative. I was homeschooling our three youngest and working full time. I had been searching for an art that didn’t require an enormous outlay of time and money. In 2021, I became a certified Zentangle® teacher. I really enjoyed making my artwork three dimensional through layering and shading. I began using watercolors and colored pencils in addition to the black pens and graphite pencil.
I have always been drawn to colors, specifically bright, bold colors. Adding colored pencils to my art, opened a new world. I wanted to learn more and draw nature that I was observing in the backyard. The menagerie of small animals in our home really opened my eyes up to the individual personalities of creatures that I never thought about. Squirrels are intuitive and funny, if you take the time to observe them. My friends can go on for hours about their chickens.
Watching a piece come to life and highlighting the subject’s personality brings me joy in the pieces I draw. I want to share this magic with you. Please contact me if you’d like to purchase a piece of art or commission a piece. I am also available to teach Zentangle®.
